ROTTEN! 2025. Polyfill, roving, plastic produce bag.
ROTTEN! was a piece that was created in Spring 2025 as a response to the prompt “the story of objects”. To make this piece, I needle-felted a polyfill base, which was then used to felt the colorful roving onto. I needle-felted all of the orange first before adding in the texture of the mold. I chose rotten oranges as my object because oranges are my favorite food, and I wanted to convey the feeling that sometimes even our favorite foods are difficult for us to eat. This work fuses photography and fiber sculpture into a larger piece that explores body image, eating disorders, and the sensation of rotting from the inside out. ROTTEN! will become part of a larger body of work that I plan on creating using needle-felting techniques and photographic processes.
